About petrochemical additives

What are petrochemical additives? What are their functions and classifications? That’s what I want to talk about today. Petrochemical additives refer to a class of chemical substances added in the process of oil exploitation, processing, storage and transportation, in order to improve the performance of oil, improve the utilization rate of oil, and protect equipment and the environment. There are many types of petrochemical additives, which can be divided into the following categories according to their use:

• In high temperature and high pressure oil fields, chemical additives with high thermal stability and high oxidation resistance can be used, such as polymer drilling fluid treatment agents, metal catalysts, etc

• In oil fields with high water content or high salt content, chemical additives with good corrosion inhibition and scale prevention can be used, such as phosphate corrosion inhibitors, biopolymer scale inhibitors, etc

• In oil fields with high sulfur content or wax content, chemical additives with high efficiency desulfurization and antifreeze ability can be used, such as alcoholamine desulfurizers and polyethylene glycol antifreeze agents

• In oil fields with unconventional extraction methods such as hydraulic fracturing or steam huff and puff, chemical additives with high strength and high durability can be used, such as crosslinked polymer fracturing fluids, silicone oil steam huff and puff fluids

• In oil fields with long distance storage and transportation methods such as pipelines or ships, chemical additives with viscosity reduction and aging prevention can be used, such as polyacrylates viscosity index improvers, benzotriazole antioxidants, etc
