Polyferric sulfate (PFS) is a kind of inorganic polymer flocculant with high efficiency, which has strong ability of removing turbidity, decolorization, deodorization, organic matter and heavy metal ions. It is widely used in municipal water supply, industrial wastewater treatment, paper making, textile, electroplating, food processing and other industries of water treatment. Polyferric sulfate not only has a remarkable removal effect on suspended solids, but also has a better coagulation effect and a lower use cost.
Other names for polymerized iron Sulfate include Ferric Sulfate Polymer, Ferric Poly Sulfate, Polymeric Ferric Sulfate, Polyiron Sulfate, and Ferric Polysulfate.
Physicochemical property
Appearance: Yellow to reddish brown liquid or solid powder
Molecular weight: varies widely depending on the degree of polymerization
pH: 3.0-3.5 (10% aqueous solution)
Density: 1.4-1.5 g/cm³ (liquid)
Main function
Turbidity removal: effective removal of suspended solids and turbidity in water.
Decolorization: Removal of organic dyes and shades from water.
Deodorization: Reduce odors in the water.
Removal of organic matter: Reduce COD and BOD in the water.
Heavy metal removal: effective removal of heavy metal ions such as lead, cadmium, chromium, etc.
Usage method
Preparation before use
Dissolution: Solid polyferric sulfate needs to be dissolved into a liquid for use. Generally, it is mixed with water according to the mass ratio of 1:3-1:5 until it is completely dissolved.
Preparation concentration: It is recommended to prepare an aqueous solution of 10%-20%, which is adjusted according to the treatment water quality.
Dosing method
Dosing equipment: Use a dosing pump or other dosing equipment to evenly add the prepared polyferric sulfate solution to the water to be treated.
Dosage: The general dosage is 10-50 mg/L, and the specific dosage is adjusted according to the water quality. The optimum dosage can be determined by small trials.
Coagulation reaction: After adding the drug, it is necessary to stir fully to make the agent fully contact with the suspended matter and pollutants in the water to form a larger alum flower. The stirring time is usually 5-10 minutes.
Precipitation separation: After coagulation reaction, stand and precipitate for 30-60 minutes to make the alum fully settle. Solid-liquid separation can be carried out by sedimentation tanks or mechanical filtration equipment.
Matters needing attention
pH adjustment: The best working pH range of polyferric sulfate is 4-11, and it is recommended to adjust the pH value of the water to be treated before use to achieve the best treatment effect.
Storage conditions: Store in a cool and dry place, away from direct sunlight. Liquid polyferric sulfate may crystallize at low temperatures and should be heated to dissolve before use.
Safety precautions: Wear protective gloves and goggles to avoid contact with skin and eyes. In case of contact, rinse immediately with plenty of water.
Applicable environment and scenario
Municipal water supply treatment: for drinking water purification treatment, can effectively remove suspended solids, colloids and microorganisms in water, improve water quality.
Industrial wastewater treatment: suitable for the treatment of all kinds of industrial wastewater, such as printing and dyeing wastewater, electroplating wastewater, papermaking wastewater, etc., can significantly reduce the concentration of pollutants in water.
Sewage treatment plant: In urban sewage treatment plants, polyferric sulfate can be used for secondary treatment and advanced treatment to improve effluent quality.
Paper and textile industry: Wastewater treatment for the paper and textile industry can remove chroma and suspended matter in water and reduce organic content.
Food processing: used for water treatment in food processing to ensure the cleanliness and safety of production water.
Case application
Municipal water treatment
In municipal water supply treatment, the use of polyferric sulfate to treat source water can effectively remove suspended matter and turbidity in water, improve effluent quality and ensure drinking water safety. The dosage is generally controlled at 20-30 mg/L, which is adjusted according to the water quality of the source.
Industrial wastewater treatment
In the treatment of printing and dyeing wastewater, polyferric sulfate can significantly remove dyes and organic matter in wastewater through coagulation and precipitation, and the dosage is generally 30-50 mg/L. After treatment, the chroma and COD in wastewater are significantly reduced, and discharge is up to standard.
Sewage treatment plant
In urban sewage treatment plants, polyferric sulfate can be used in the coagulation and precipitation process of secondary treatment, and the dosage is generally 10-30 mg/L. Through the use of polyferric sulfate, the concentration of suspended matter and organic matter in effluent is greatly reduced, and the effect of wastewater treatment is improved.
Polyferric sulfate (PFS), as an efficient inorganic polymer flocculant, has become an indispensable and important pharmaceutical in municipal water supply, industrial wastewater treatment, paper making and textile industry because of its wide applicability and excellent treatment effect. Through reasonable use method and scientific dosage control, polyferric sulfate can significantly improve the efficiency and effect of water treatment, and achieve the dual purpose of cost saving and environmental protection. Its various nicknames, such as Ferric Sulfate Polymer and Ferric Poly Sulfate, all refer to the same highly effective water treatment agent.
